Wrestler Sushil Kumar Gets Major Relief from High Court, Granted Bail in Sagar Dhankhar Murder Case

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has granted bail to wrestler Sushil Kumar in the Sagar Dhankhar murder case. Justice Sanjeev Narula’s bench ordered his release on bail with a bond of ₹50,000.

Earlier, Sushil Kumar had been granted interim bail to attend his father’s last rites and for knee surgery.

On October 12, 2022, the court had framed charges against Sushil Kumar and 17 other accused in the Sagar Dhankhar murder case. The charges included murder, attempt to murder, rioting, and criminal conspiracy. The court also ordered charges to be framed against two absconding accused.

The accused named in the case include wrestler Sushil Kumar, Ajay Kumar, Prince Dalal, Mohit alias Bhooli, Manjeet alias Chunnilal, Gulab, Rohit Malik alias Sonu, Bijender alias Binder, Anirudh Dahiya, Subhash, Gaurav Laura, Surjeet Grewal alias Kala, Bhupendra, Anil Dhiman, Praveen Dabas (son of Sahib Singh Dabas), Praveen alias Choti, Rahul alias Dhanda, and Praveen Dabas (son of Suresh alias Guniya).

On August 6, 2021, the court took cognizance of the first chargesheet filed by the Delhi Police Crime Branch. The chargesheet, spanning 170 pages, was filed on August 2, 2021.

Sushil Kumar was arrested by Delhi Police from Mundka on May 23, 2021. He was accused of assaulting Sagar Dhankhar and his friends on the night of May 4-5, 2021, over a property dispute. The chargesheet also mentioned that Anirudh Dahiya is an international wrestler, and his father was also a wrestler. Dahiya was arrested on June 10, 2021.
