Chandigarh: Roundglass Tennis Academy’s Yuki Bhambri qualified for the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career after he progressed to the last eight of the competition along with his partner Michael Venus of New Zealand. The pair, who are seeded 14th got the better of fourth seeded Germans Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz 6-4, 6-4 in straight sets. The pair will next take on 11th seeds Croatia’s Nikola Mektic and American veteran Rajeev Ram tomorrow.
The 33-year-old Yuki has been in decent form in the Grand Slams this season, reaching the third round of the French Open and Wimbledon partnering with Robert Galloway. Yuki became the No 1 doubles player in the country at the end of Miami Open 2025 after overcoming Rohan Bopanna who he had beaten in Miami to achieve that.
Yuki is currently 32nd in ATP rankings and 28th in the ATP live rankings. Yuki has been in a rich vein of form recently and won his first-ever ATP 500 title earlier in March at the Dubai Tennis Championships 2025, partnering Alexei Popyrin of Australia.
“This victory is a reward for Yuki’s resilience, discipline, and his never give up attitude over the last few months,” said Aditya Sachdeva, Technical Director of Roundglass Tennis Academy, under whom Yuki has been training in Chandigarh. “We’ve focused on building not just his physical game, but his tactical maturity and mental resilience. Playing such good tennis at this stage of his career shows his hunger and his aim to achieve more in his career. We believe this consistent form will continue in the months to come.”
Yuki was also named in India’s Davis Cup squad for the World Group I first round tie against Switzerland in the city of Biel from September 12 after he missed the previous tie against Togo which was played in New Delhi. Roundglass Tennis Academy’s Karan Singh has also been named in the squad.
