KTS 4.0 : 300 students from Kashi arrive in Chennai, —Tamil Nadu governor Shri R.N. Ravi meets students at IIT Madras

Varanasi/Chennai : Under the Kashi Tamil Sangamam 4.0 initiative, around 300 students from Kashi arrived in Chennai, the educational and cultural hub of South India. The students were accorded a warm and traditional welcome at the Chennai railway station. Faculty members from IIT Madras, officials and public representatives were present on the occasion to receive the delegation. They welcomed the students and highlighted the spirit of cultural unity, mutual understanding and cooperation that the initiative aims to strengthen between the two states.

Upon their arrival in Chennai, the students from Varanasi were received by officials at IIT Madras. During the visit, the Governor of Tamil Nadu, Shri R. N. Ravi, interacted with the students and spoke about the deep cultural ties shared by Kashi and Tamil Nadu. He highlighted the importance of the cultural exchange programme.

This is the first time that such a large group of students from Kashi has embarked on a trip to South India. During this educational and cultural journey, the students will deeply study the Tamil language, literature, culture, traditions and educational system. They will also have the opportunity to visit and learn about famous temples, historical sites and educational institutions in South India.

Addressing the students, IIT Madras officials stated that both Kashi and Tamil Nadu have been major centres of India’s ancient civilisations. Such journeys not only help in understanding language and culture but also strengthen the unity and integrity of the country.

The students expressed great enthusiasm for the visit. Their spirits were further boosted by the traditional welcome they received at Chennai railway station. They said the lush greenery, the grandeur of the temples and the opportunity to learn about the region’s language and culture made the experience both new and memorable for them.

The 300 students have been divided into 10 groups. Over a 10-day period, they will learn the Tamil language, stay at various universities and travel across different parts of South India. The programme will conclude with a visit to Rameswaram.

Newton, a Sanskrit student of BHU, said that the journey has been a great learning experience for the students. He added that getting the opportunity to closely understand South India’s culture, temples and the Tamil language is very significant for them. The confluence of Kashi and Tamil Nadu is truly unforgettable.

Badal, a PhD student, said that the Kashi Tamil Sangamam is providing a true experience of unity in diversity. The education system, language and traditions here are giving us a new perspective. This journey will prove to be a milestone in our academic and cultural development.

Overall, the journey of students from Kashi to Chennai is not only an opportunity for learning but also a significant step towards further strengthening the cultural bridge between North and South India.
