Will Consensus Emerge on Nitin Nabin or Will BJP Pick Another National President?

New Delhi: Political activity has intensified within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the election of its national president. In this context, the party’s top leadership held an important meeting in the national capital to deliberate on finalising the election process. During the meeting, the BJP’s election committee discussed procedural formalities, rules and timelines related to the election of the national president in detail.
According to sources, the objective of the meeting was to outline the framework for the national president’s election, which is considered crucial for shaping the party’s future organisational agenda, so that an official announcement can be made soon. Amid these deliberations, the name of senior Bihar leader Nitin Nabin has gained momentum, though it is believed that other potential names are also under consideration within the party.
The BJP leadership is working on strengthening the organisation through this election to better prepare for upcoming political challenges. It will therefore be interesting to see whether a consensus is reached on Nitin Nabin for the post of national president or whether the party entrusts this key responsibility to another leader.
Sources further said that BJP leaders met in the capital on Tuesday to decide the process for electing the party’s next national president, with an official announcement expected shortly. The meeting, held at the BJP headquarters, was part of ongoing organisational efforts to initiate and streamline the election process for the next party chief. K. Laxman, the convener of the committee constituted for the national president’s election, was present at the meeting. Co-conveners Sambit Patra and Naresh Bansal also actively participated in the deliberations.
The committee is understood to be discussing key aspects of the election process, including procedural formalities, timelines and organisational coordination. The aim of these discussions is to ensure a smooth, transparent and timely election in accordance with the party’s constitutional framework. Senior party leaders are closely monitoring the developments, and an official communication or announcement is expected after the consultations conclude. The election of the BJP’s national president is seen as a significant organisational step in view of the party’s future political and electoral roadmap.
Earlier in December, the BJP had appointed five-time Bihar MLA Nitin Nabin as the party’s working president. Union Minister J.P. Nadda is currently leading the national party. Nabin’s appointment has been widely viewed as a signal of the party’s focus on promoting younger leadership. The meeting at the BJP headquarters is ongoing, and further details are awaited.
