Khamenei Killed in US-Israel Attack; Shia Community Protests in Kashmir

Srinagar: Protests erupted in several parts of Kashmir on Sunday after reports emerged that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was killed in a joint military strike by the United States and Israel. According to officials, hundreds of people, particularly from Shia-dominated areas, took to the streets to express their anger and grief.

Protesters raised slogans against the United States and Israel, condemned the attack, and expressed solidarity with Iran. Demonstrators carried photographs of Khamenei and banners supporting Iran, while black flags were seen across several protest sites.

One protester said, “Today our beloved leader Khamenei has been brutally killed. We are deeply saddened and shocked by this cruel act.” Many participants described Khamenei not just as a political figure but as a spiritual guide.

In Srinagar and other Shia-majority areas, members of the Shia Muslim community gathered to mourn the reported killing. For many Shia Muslims, Khamenei was regarded as a Marja-e-Taqlid, a religious authority whose guidance is followed in matters of faith.

Reports from Iran indicate that the country has declared 40 days of national mourning following Khamenei’s death. Flags have been lowered to half-mast, and public mourning gatherings are being organized across the country.

In Shia Islam, the 40th day after a death, known as Arbaeen, holds deep spiritual significance and is traditionally marked with remembrance and mourning rituals.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee also expressed grief over the reported death. Under the leadership of its president Tariq Hameed Karra, the party described the incident as an inhuman and cowardly attack and announced the postponement of all its political programs scheduled for Sunday.

Authorities said they are closely monitoring the situation in Kashmir to maintain law and order as protests continue in several areas.
