President Murmu Emphasizes Balance of Development and Culture for Empowering Tribal Communities
Addresses National Conference on Empowerment of Tribal Society through Spiritual Awakening in Betul; Stresses Natural Living and Spiritual Consciousness
Betul (Madhya Pradesh): President Droupadi Murmu said that the true empowerment of any society cannot be achieved through economic development alone. Real empowerment comes from fostering self-confidence, self-respect, awareness, and a sense of responsibility among individuals. She emphasized that a balance between development and culture forms the foundation of a strong and prosperous society, and that sustainable development is one that strengthens cultural roots while creating opportunities for the future.
The President was addressing the national conference titled “Empowerment of Tribal Society through Spiritual Awakening” in Betul. She noted that tribal communities have traditionally lived with dignity and self-respect, which makes them unique. According to her, spiritual consciousness helps individuals realize their inner strength and connect with higher values of life.
Tribal Communities Vital to the Vision of Viksit Bharat 2047
President Murmu said that India has set a goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047. Achieving this vision will require the participation of every section of society in the development process. She stressed that preserving India’s rich cultural and natural heritage—from the Himalayas to Kanyakumari—is a collective responsibility.
Expressing confidence in the initiative, she said that conferences organized by the Brahma Kumaris would play a significant role in the spiritual upliftment, social awareness, and holistic development of tribal communities.
Tribal Culture Offers a Model for Environmental Conservation
Highlighting the deep connection between tribal communities and nature, the President said that tribal societies have lived in harmony with nature for centuries. They revere natural elements such as the earth, water, air, the sun, and the moon, and use natural resources responsibly and only as needed.
She remarked that at a time when the world is increasingly concerned about environmental protection, the lifestyle of tribal communities can serve as a guiding example for humanity. Their commitment to preserving rather than exploiting nature is one of their greatest strengths.
Natural Farming Is the Way Forward
While visiting an exhibition at the conference venue, President Murmu appreciated products cultivated through natural farming practices by tribal communities. She observed that excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides is degrading soil fertility and contributing to various health problems.
She noted that natural farming has been an integral part of India’s traditional agricultural system and that the country is now returning to those roots. Natural farming, she said, benefits not only physical health but also mental well-being and spiritual consciousness.
Focus on Education, Health and Digital Empowerment
The President emphasized the need to connect tribal youth with modern education, skill development, and digital technologies so that they can benefit from emerging opportunities. At the same time, she stressed the importance of preserving their cultural identity, traditions, and spiritual heritage.
She also praised the Government of Madhya Pradesh for its initiatives in education, healthcare, and tribal welfare. Referring specifically to efforts to eliminate sickle cell anaemia, she said these measures would significantly improve the health standards of tribal communities.
Service and Spirituality Can Transform Society
President Murmu acknowledged the contribution of the Brahma Kumaris, which has been working for decades in the fields of spiritual awakening, de-addiction, women’s empowerment, youth development, and social upliftment. Through meditation and spiritual education, the organization has positively impacted thousands of lives.
She stated that when service and spirituality come together, lasting and meaningful social transformation becomes possible, and described the conference as an important step in that direction.
Governor Highlights Role of Spiritual Awareness
Speaking on the occasion, Mangubhai Patel said that spiritual consciousness and moral values inspire individuals to lead a refined and meaningful life. He added that regular meditation helps achieve mental peace, positive energy, and emotional balance.
President’s Life a Source of Inspiration: Durgadas Uikey
Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Durgadas Uikey said that President Murmu’s journey from a small tribal village in Odisha to the highest constitutional office in the country is a powerful example of the strength of Indian democracy and social harmony. He described her life as an inspiring story of struggle, service, dedication, and commitment to duty.
The conference was inaugurated by President Murmu through the ceremonial presentation of a sacred kalash and flag. She was welcomed by Rajyogini Manju Didi and other representatives of the Brahma Kumaris. The event witnessed the participation of a large number of tribal representatives, social workers, and distinguished citizens.
