Madhya Pradesh to Organize Statewide Events Marking 125th Birth Anniversary Year of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee
Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government will organize a series of special programs across the state from June 23 to July 6 to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary year of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and a prominent nationalist thinker.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav issued necessary directions during a video conference with mayors and municipal council chairpersons from the Chief Minister’s residence. He emphasized that Dr. Mookerjee dedicated his entire life to the ideals of national unity, integrity, and national consciousness.
“Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee placed the interests of the nation above everything else and fought several significant battles for national causes. His life continues to inspire citizens, especially the youth,” the Chief Minister said.
Special Fortnight from June 23 to July 6
Dr. Yadav directed that a special statewide observance be held from June 23, the death anniversary of Dr. Mookerjee, to July 6, his birth anniversary. The fortnight-long program will include tribute ceremonies, seminars, discussions, public awareness campaigns, and thought forums highlighting his life and contributions.
The Chief Minister said the primary objective of the campaign should be to take Dr. Mookerjee’s ideas and vision for nation-building to every section of society. He stressed the need for widespread dissemination of his message of national integration and public service.
Symbol of Supreme Sacrifice for National Interest
Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee passed away on June 23, 1953, during an agitation against the special constitutional provisions in Jammu and Kashmir. His sacrifice is widely regarded as one of the most significant contributions made in the national interest.
Born on July 6, 1901, Dr. Mookerjee is remembered as an educationist, parliamentarian, thinker, and visionary leader whose contributions played an important role in shaping modern India.

The Chief Minister said that the 125th birth anniversary year presents a valuable opportunity to acquaint the younger generation with the ideals of patriotism, dedication, leadership, and public service.
He urged urban local bodies to ensure maximum youth participation in the commemorative events so that Dr. Mookerjee’s thoughts and values reach every segment of society.
Dr. Yadav added that the fortnight-long observance would conclude with programs focused on promoting Dr. Mookerjee’s vision and highlighting his enduring contribution to nation-building and national unity.
