NCB Celebrates 39th Raising Day, Launches ‘Drug-Free Campus’ Initiative

New Delhi :  The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) marked its 39th Raising Day by launching the ‘Drug-Free Campus’ initiative. The campaign began at the College of Vocational Studies and will be expanded nationwide.

As part of this ‘Niramaya’ initiative, an inaugural program was held at the College of Vocational Studies, with Shri Neeraj Kumar Gupta, Deputy Director General (Northern Region), NCB, as the chief guest. The event commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Shiv Kumar Sahadev, Principal of the College of Vocational Studies, followed by a video message from the Vice Chancellor of Delhi University.

In his address, Prof. Shiv Kumar Sahadev emphasized that education is not just a means of acquiring knowledge but a holistic process that ensures the overall development of an individual. However, substance abuse is a growing menace among students, negatively impacting their education and entire lives. Keeping this issue in mind, NCB has taken the commendable step of launching the ‘Drug-Free Campus’ initiative.

Following this, the DDG (NR) of NCB and the Chairman of the College of Vocational Studies addressed the gathering. Dr. Savita Jha, Director of CSTS, highlighted that making India drug-free is a top priority for the Government of India, with Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah actively working towards this goal. She stated that young individuals today are increasingly vulnerable to substance abuse due to stress, competition, and social pressure, affecting their physical and mental well-being as well as their careers and family lives.

The Health and Hygiene Committee of the College of Vocational Studies released guidelines for maintaining a drug-free campus. Attendees then took an e-pledge, and a signature campaign was announced.

The event also honored 11 ‘Muktiveers’ (warriors against drug abuse), two of whom shared their personal experiences of overcoming addiction. Students of the College of Vocational Studies performed a street play, delivering a strong message about the importance of maintaining a drug-free environment.

Additionally, five competitions were announced as part of the initiative, to be held from March 17, 2025, to April 17, 2025:
