PM Modi Proposes 21-Point Action Plan at BIMSTEC Summit, Emphasizes Cultural Ties for Regional Unity

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi today presented a 21-point action plan at the 6th BIMSTEC Summit held in Bangkok, Thailand, covering various aspects of cooperation among BIMSTEC member countries. Emphasizing the importance of youth leadership and cultural ties, PM Modi expressed confidence that shared heritage and values will bring BIMSTEC nations closer together.

BIMSTEC – the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation – is a regional organization comprising Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bhutan, and Nepal.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, PM Modi participated in the summit and welcomed several key developments including:

The signing of the BIMSTEC Maritime Transport Agreement

Adoption of the BIMSTEC Bangkok Vision 2030

Endorsement of the BIMSTEC Eminent Persons’ Group Report

Finalization of the Summit Declaration by member countries

In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi shared,

“BIMSTEC is a key platform for promoting global good. It is essential that we strengthen it and deepen our engagement. In this spirit, I proposed a 21-point action plan encompassing various aspects of our cooperation.”

During his address, PM Modi emphasized enhancing trade, tapping into the vast potential of the IT sector, and the urgent need for joint disaster management in light of the recent earthquakes in Myanmar and Thailand. He also highlighted the importance of space cooperation and strengthening security frameworks.

“The time has come to boost trade among BIMSTEC nations. BIMSTEC has the potential to be a model for capacity-building frameworks. Together, we will energize the forum, and our youth will lead the way,” PM Modi said.

He concluded by underlining the power of cultural connections:

“Few things unite like culture. Cultural ties can bring BIMSTEC countries even closer.”

The summit marks a significant step in reinforcing regional cooperation and charting a collective roadmap for growth, resilience, and shared prosperity across the Bay of Bengal region.
