Delhi Government’s Big Announcement: 1200 Units of Free Electricity for Kanwar Camps, Corruption to End
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has taken a strong stand against corruption in the management of Kanwar Seva Camps, making a significant announcement. She stated that under previous governments, the arrangements for the Kanwar Yatra had become a hub of corruption. A handful of contractors would win tenders, resulting in poorly managed camps and even tents not being set up on time.
CM Rekha Gupta said, “We have decided that from now on, all registered Kanwar committees will receive direct financial support through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) from the Delhi government. This will eliminate the role of middlemen and ensure transparency in the process.”
Delhi Minister Ashish Sood added that Kanwar committees had long been demanding better facilities and support. He announced that all Kanwar camps across Delhi will receive free electricity, and assured that adequate security arrangements will also be put in place to ensure the comfort and safety of devotees.
Another Delhi Minister, Kapil Mishra, described the Chief Minister’s announcements as “historic,” saying, “Each Kanwar Seva Camp will be provided with 1200 units of electricity completely free of charge. The two major demands of the camp organizers – electricity relief and single-window clearance – have both been accepted by the Chief Minister.”
Mishra further stated that the tender system has now been abolished. “No contract will become a source of corruption anymore. The funds will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of camp organizers, who will then utilize them to serve the Kanwar pilgrims.”
The Chief Minister’s decisions have been widely appreciated by the public and the Kanwar Seva Committees. These steps are expected to not only curb corruption but also ensure a safe, smooth, and respectful pilgrimage experience for Lord Shiva’s devotees.
