ABVP Guided Me from Holding a Lamp to Lighting It: Rekha Gupta

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday addressed the ‘Chhatra Parliament’ organized by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at the NDMC auditorium. She stated that ABVP is not just a student organization but a great school of life management. Gupta emphasized that ABVP played a crucial role in shaping her life and expressed, “ABVP has guided me from merely holding a lamp to lighting it.”

As the chief guest, Rekha Gupta shared her journey with ABVP, stating that she joined the organization in 1993 and contested the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections in 1995. She highlighted that the energy, confidence, and determination of young female students serve as the foundation for the nation’s bright future.

She further emphasized that ABVP has played a key role in empowering and training female students in leadership. She confidently stated that this organization will produce not just one but hundreds of leaders like her in the coming years. Through the Chhatra Parliament, ABVP is creating a strong ideological foundation that will contribute to nation-building. She proudly declared, “I am an ABVPian.”

ABVP’s Historic Initiative for Policy Reforms
ABVP’s National General Secretary, Dr. Virendra Singh Solanki, announced that a demand charter was drafted by the students during the concluding session of the Chhatra Parliament. He assured that this charter would soon be submitted to the government and relevant departments. He emphasized that the Chhatra Parliament is not just a platform for discussion but a historic initiative aimed at resolving students’ ground-level issues and ensuring their participation in policy-making.

Provision of scholarships for rural students migrating to urban areas for studies.
Inclusion of women warriors, female scientists, athletes, and leaders in academic curricula.
Special grants and schemes for women researchers.

Health & Safety Initiatives:

Mandatory availability of sanitary napkin vending machines.
Establishment of ‘Pink Toilets’ in public spaces.
Monitoring of Nirbhaya Fund and setting up women’s health desks at the tehsil level.
Implementation of cybersecurity training programs for female students.
Self-defense training camps as a compulsory initiative.
