Delhi Presents ‘Green Budget’, 21% Allocation for Environment; ₹9,092 Crore Surplus Estimated

New Delhi: Rekha Gupta has presented the Delhi Budget for the financial year 2026–27, terming it a “Green Budget.” The budget prioritizes environmental protection alongside development, aiming to ensure balanced and sustainable growth in the national capital.

Strong Focus on Environment
The Chief Minister stated that this year’s budget has been prepared entirely with a “green perspective.” Every scheme, policy, and decision has been designed keeping in mind its environmental impact. Around 21% of the total budget has been allocated to environment-related initiatives. She emphasized that maintaining a balance between development and nature is the need of the hour.

Balanced Expenditure and Revenue
According to the budget, 70.3% of the total expenditure has been earmarked for revenue expenditure (day-to-day spending), while 29.7% has been allocated for capital expenditure (infrastructure development). The government has increased its focus on capital spending to accelerate major development projects across the city.

Additionally, the tax-to-GSDP ratio is expected to improve from 4.95% to 5.09%. The government anticipates a revenue surplus of approximately ₹9,092 crore in the current financial year.

Vision of ‘Viksit Delhi, Harit Delhi’
The Chief Minister said that “Viksit Delhi, Harit Delhi” is not just a slogan but a clear vision of the government. Efforts are being made to create a cleaner, safer, and more livable city, ensuring a better quality of life for citizens.

She also thanked the people of Delhi for their trust and support, stating that the government remains committed to serving citizens 24×7. The Delhi Assembly’s budget session will continue until March 25, during which detailed discussions on the budget will take place.
