Help Desk is blessing for Elderly
Bhilai : In response to the growing challenges faced by the elderly due to rapid urbanization, changing family structures, and the rise of nuclear families, Bhilai Steel Plant with the help of Sulabh International School of Action Sociology and Sociology of Sanitation, New Delhi has launched a special Help Desk (Porter Service) for elders at Bhilai Steel Plant’s Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital. This initiative, supported by Bhilai Steel Plant as part of its CSR efforts, was inaugurated on the occasion of World Elders Day.
The project was officially launched by Hon’ble Mr. Anirban Dasgupta, Director In-Charge of Bhilai Steel Plant, in the presence of senior officials from Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL), including Dr. Ravindranath, CMO incharge. The Help Desk aims to provide elderly patients and visitors with necessary assistance, including porter services to navigate the hospital premises and receive personalized support during their visits.
Mrs. Sonam Mishra, Vice-President of Sulabh International, welcomed Mr. Anirban Dasgupta and the distinguished guests, expressing gratitude for their support. In her remarks, she reaffirmed Sulabh International’s commitment to working with dedication at Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital, ensuring the elderly are treated with care, dignity, and respect.
The initiative addresses the insecurities faced by older adults due to their perceived neglect in today’s nuclear family system. As joint families give way to more isolated living patterns, the elderly often find themselves feeling vulnerable. The Help Desk service is designed to alleviate these concerns by providing much-needed assistance and fostering a sense of security.
