ICC Announces Match Officials for Women’s T20 World Cup 2024
New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the match officials for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, the ninth edition of the tournament, on Tuesday.
A total of ten umpires and three match referees will oversee the tournament, which will take place in the United Arab Emirates from October 3 to 20.
The experienced group of umpires includes Claire Polosak, who will be officiating in her fifth ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Kim Cotton and Jacqueline Williams will also officiate their fourth World Cup, having previously handled the final between host South Africa and defending champions Australia in Cape Town last February.
Sue Redfern, who served as the TV umpire in that final, is making her fourth appearance in the tournament. On the other end of the spectrum, Zimbabwe’s Sarah Dumbvuri will make her debut at this event.
The match referees include GS Lakshmi, who officiated her first T20I in 2012 and supervised the final in 2023. She will be joined by Shandre Fritz and Michelle Pereira, who are returning for their second ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in a refereeing role.
ICC’s Senior Manager of Umpires and Referees, Sean Easley, expressed pride in the organization’s contribution to the advancement of women in the sport. He stated, “It’s fantastic to announce this all-female lineup of match officials for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. This group has been selected as some of the best umpires in the world, following their recent form in bilateral and other cricket matches.”
He added, “We are confident they will perform exceptionally well at this event. I wish them all the best as they oversee the world’s top female cricketers in what promises to be an exciting tournament for everyone involved.”
