Over 60% Voting in Delhi, BJP Leads in Exit Polls

New Delhi: In the Delhi Assembly elections, more than 60% voter turnout was recorded yesterday. According to the updated figures on the Election Commission’s voting app at 11:30 PM, the turnout stood at 60.44% at that time. Voting for all 70 seats took place from 7 AM to 6 PM. This time, the total number of eligible voters in Delhi was 1.56 crore. Most exit polls have predicted that the next government in Delhi will be formed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

As per the updated figures on the Election Commission’s voting app, North-East Delhi recorded the highest voter turnout at 66.25%, while South-East Delhi saw the lowest turnout at 56.16%. Among the constituencies, Mustafabad recorded the highest turnout at 69%, whereas Mehrauli saw the lowest at 53.04%. Other key figures include Shahdara (63.94%), South-West Delhi (61.09%), North-West Delhi (60.70%), North Delhi (59.55%), Central Delhi (59.09%), and South-East Delhi (56.26%).

This election saw 699 candidates contesting, with voting conducted at 13,766 polling stations. In the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, the voter turnout was 62.59%, while in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, it stood at 56%.

If the exit poll predictions hold true, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is set to lose power in Delhi, and the BJP is poised to take over. According to most exit polls, the Congress party is unlikely to make a significant impact.

Now, all eyes are on the vote counting on February 8. In the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, AAP had won 62 seats, while BJP secured 8 seats.
