Police Raids on Gangster Hideouts in Delhi
New Delhi : In response to the recent spate of extortion-related shootings across Delhi, police teams from various units carried out raids across several areas of the city on Tuesday night. As of the time of reporting, no arrests have been made.
The raids targeted hideouts of criminals associated with notorious gangs such as the Lawrence Bishnoi, Kala Jathedi, Tillu Tajpuria, Hasim Baba, and Bambiha gangs. The operations spanned across multiple locations, from Yamuna Par in East Delhi to South Delhi’s Sangam Vihar, Dwarka, as well as Narela and Kanjhawala in the northern outskirts of the city. Special Cell, Crime Branch, and other district units were involved in the raids.
This action comes after several alarming incidents of gunfights linked to extortion attempts. Recently, in West Delhi’s Raj Mandir Super Market in Paschim Vihar, gangsters fired multiple rounds, demanding an extortion sum of over ₹5 crore. Prior to that, a shooting incident had occurred in Nangloi, where the extortion demand was ₹2 crore.
According to police sources, this year alone, businessmen across Delhi have received over 100 extortion calls by October, signaling a rise in criminal activities targeting the city’s business community.
