Protesters in Wave City Turning Unruly by Violating Agreement Terms
Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh) : Wave City, poised to become the country’s finest hi-tech city, is facing disruptions in its development work due to the actions of unruly elements who are refusing to abide by the terms of a previously agreed settlement. Under the pretext of protest, so-called farmer leaders have been misbehaving with the employees of Wave City. Reports confirm that one person was seriously injured during a demonstration held on Sunday.
A particularly alarming aspect of the situation is that these protesters are openly defying court orders. The court had specifically instructed the Hi-Tech City Resistance Movement Committee and its affiliates not to obstruct the development work being carried out by the company. Despite this, the protestors continue to violate the court’s directive.
For the past several days, multiple incidents have been reported from Wave City causing distress to the local population. On Sunday, protesters blocked the 57-meter main road for nearly 8 hours, severely hampering movement in the area and resulting in one person being injured. Employees working in Wave City have stated that small groups of self-proclaimed farmer leaders regularly gather at the gates to shout slogans and engage in verbal abuse with the staff.
Wave Group management alleges that these farmers are now rejecting the agreed settlement terms and are attempting to extort money through intimidation. According to the management, the agreement was accepted by the company in 2014 and all commitments were fulfilled within the stipulated time.
Wave City’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr. C.J. Singh, clarified that Clause 3 of the agreement is not being accepted now because its deadline has long expired. “It is beyond understanding why this demand is resurfacing after 11 years,” he said.
As per available information, on May 25, 2014, a mutual settlement was signed in the presence of officials from Ghaziabad Development Authority, representatives of the Hi-Tech City developer, local administrative officers, and farmers from the villages of Mehraulis, Sadikpur, Kazipura, Bayana, Naiphal, Shahpur Bamheta, Inayatpur, Arifpur, and Sadatnagar Ikla. The agreement clearly stated that all farmers and their representatives would fully cooperate with the developer in ensuring uninterrupted progress of the project and would not cause any obstruction under any circumstances.
Despite these agreements, daily protests and instances of unrest have been causing significant hindrances to development activities and instilling fear among the local residents.
