Despite Agreement, Protesters Obstructing Development Work in Wave City

Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh): Despite aiming to become the most high-tech city in the country, Wave City is facing continuous disruptions to its development work by certain disruptive elements acting out of personal interest. Interestingly, these individuals are unwilling to abide by the terms of the agreement reached between the farmers’ associations, individual farmers, and the Wave City management. Moreover, new groups—who were not even party to the original agreement—are now organizing protests and attempting to pressure both the district administration and the project management.

The district administration, the Bhartiya Kisan Sangathan (BKS), and the Wave City management have clearly stated that all development work is being carried out strictly as per the May 2014 agreement, under which all affected farmers have already been compensated and allotted land.

Sources suggest that after a rise in land value, some miscreants are misleading farmers by offering them false promises of additional compensation. Taking advantage of this confusion, certain so-called organizations are staging protests. However, legal experts and officials have reiterated that if anyone believes the land was acquired or the agreement made unfairly, they are free to seek redress in court. The court, however, has already ruled that the terms of the agreement must not be violated.

Meanwhile, the Bhartiya Kisan Sangathan has written to the district administration clearly stating that these ongoing protests are illegal. In the letter submitted by Lokesh Nagar, BKS District President of Ghaziabad and In-charge of Meerut Division, it has been mentioned that the protest inside Wave City is unlawful and led by external political leaders.

The letter further confirms that the company has honored the agreement reached with the farmers and local residents on 20 October 2024, and continues to register land and carry out development work accordingly.

It also mentions that some individuals are now demanding plots even for land that was sold at higher rates, which has no connection with the 2014 agreement. The BKS states that they were part of the original agreement, and fully support the 21 October 2024 consensus, which bears the signatures of nearly 250 farmers from the area. The organization has also expressed its firm opposition to the ongoing protest.
