Severe Heatwave Grips Madhya Pradesh: Heatwave Warning in 13 Districts Today, Rain Expected from Tomorrow

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A severe heatwave continues to scorch Madhya Pradesh. Several parts of the state are experiencing blazing temperatures. In Khajuraho (Chhatarpur district), the mercury soared to 44.4°C, making it the seventh hottest city in the country. On Friday, a heatwave alert has been issued for 13 districts, while rainfall is expected to begin from April 26 and may continue for three days.

According to the Meteorological Department, over the next four days, some parts of the state will face intense heatwave conditions, while others may witness light rain and thunderstorms. This change in weather is due to a western disturbance and the formation of a trough. Despite this, most parts of the state will continue to experience extreme heat and heatwave conditions. The districts under heatwave alert today include Ratlam, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Barwani, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Seoni, Mandla, Balaghat, Panna, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, and Niwari. Other major cities such as Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Ujjain, and Jabalpur will also face intense heat.

On Thursday, the state recorded extreme heat. In several cities, including Bhopal, roads began to melt under the sun’s intensity. Khajuraho and Nowgaon in Chhatarpur district were the hottest locations, recording 44.4°C and 43.7°C respectively. Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, and Jabalpur all reported temperatures above 40°C. Except for Pachmarhi, the state’s only hill station which recorded 36.6°C, all other cities crossed the 40°C mark.

Among the five major cities, Gwalior was the hottest at 41.8°C, followed by Ujjain (41.6°C), Bhopal (41.2°C), and Indore and Jabalpur at 40.8°C. Ratlam and Shivpuri also saw high temperatures with Ratlam recording 43.2°C and Shivpuri 43°C. Narsinghpur (42.8°C), Mandla (42.5°C), Chhindwara, Satna, Tikamgarh, and Damoh (42.4°C), Malajkhand (42.3°C), Narmadapuram (42.2°C), Dhar (42°C), Guna (41.9°C), Shajapur (41.8°C), Sagar (41.7°C), Khandwa (41.5°C), Khargone and Raisen (41.4°C), Umaria, Sidhi, and Betul (41.2°C), and Rewa (41°C) also reported soaring temperatures.
