SGPC President Completes Religious Punishment by Polishing Shoes and Cleaning Utensils at Darbar Sahib
Chandigarh: Amidst the controversy sparked by his comments about former Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Bibi Jagir Kaur, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami completed his religious punishment on Wednesday by polishing shoes at Darbar Sahib. Harjinder Singh Dhami has been embroiled in controversy for several days due to his remarks against Bibi Jagir Kaur, which led to a notice being issued by the National Commission for Women, summoning him. Dhami appeared before the Commission, recorded his statement, and publicly apologized to Bibi Jagir. Despite this, SGPC President Dhami wrote a letter to the Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Raghuvir Singh, seeking forgiveness and accepting any punishment that would be decided.
Following the orders of the Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib, SGPC President Dhami appeared before the Panj Pyare (Five Beloved Ones) on Wednesday. The Panj Pyare issued instructions for Dhami to perform one hour of “Joda Ghar” (shoe polishing), one hour of utensil cleaning in the langar hall, recite five Japji Sahib prayers, and also perform a “Deg Seva” (offering of Rs. 500). Dhami followed the instructions of the Panj Pyare and completed his punishment by polishing shoes and cleaning utensils at Darbar Sahib.
