Strong Earthquake Tremors Jolt Delhi-NCR, Epicenter in Jhajjar, Haryana
Jhajjar/Delhi: A 4.4 magnitude earthquake was recorded on the Richter scale at 9:04 AM IST today with its epicenter in Jhajjar district of Haryana. The tremors were strongly felt across Delhi-NCR, including Noida and Ghaziabad, prompting people to rush out of homes and offices to open spaces. Though the tremors lasted only a few seconds, they triggered a sense of panic among residents.
A resident from Delhi shared, “We felt the earthquake clearly. The tremors were quite strong. I was in my car at the time, and it started shaking suddenly. I was really scared.”
A local from Ghaziabad said, “There was an earthquake just a few days ago. Now we’ve felt the tremors again. Earthquakes are common in the Delhi-NCR region. That’s why we need to be prepared with mock drills and proper safety measures.”
No reports of casualties or damage have surfaced so far. However, experts have reiterated that Delhi-NCR lies in a seismically active zone, and residents must remain vigilant and aware of disaster preparedness protocols.
The repeated tremors have raised concerns about whether the capital region is adequately prepared to handle a major earthquake. Experts and citizens alike are emphasizing the need for regular mock drills, public awareness campaigns, and efficient emergency response systems.
The NDRF and local authorities are monitoring the situation closely. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has urged people not to panic and to stay alert and informed.
