Amit Shah Credits PM Modi and CM Nitish for NDA’s Big Lead, Salutes the People of Bihar

New Delhi : The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is on the verge of setting a historic milestone in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, as the latest trends show the coalition crossing the 200-seat mark. With the NDA securing a decisive lead, Home Minister Amit Shah has reacted with a strong message of gratitude and confidence.
In his post on social media, Amit Shah wrote:
“Salutations to the people of Bihar — the land of knowledge, hard work, and guardians of democracy.”
He added that the overwhelming mandate given by the people of Bihar is an endorsement of the NDA’s commitment to development, women’s safety, good governance, and welfare of the poor. Shah highlighted that over the past 11 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has worked wholeheartedly for Bihar, while Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has succeeded in pulling the state out of the darkness of ‘jungleraj’.
He asserted that this mandate reflects the people’s resolve for a “Viksit Bihar”. Shah further said that every vote cast by the people of Bihar represents trust in the Modi government’s policies against infiltrators who threaten national security. According to him, the electorate has given a strong reply to those who protect infiltrators for their vote-bank politics.
The senior BJP leader also stated that the people of Bihar have shown the mood of the entire nation — that voter list purification is essential, and there is no space for politics against it. This, he said, is why Congress under Rahul Gandhi has been pushed to the bottom in Bihar. He concluded by saying that this victory belongs to every citizen who believes in a developed Bihar, and that those who practice jungle raj or appeasement politics will no longer get any opportunity to plunder the state.
“The people now give their mandate only on the basis of performance.”

Women Voters: The Silent Force Behind NDA’s Surge
The two-phase elections held on 6 and 11 November saw women outvote men in unprecedented numbers. Bihar recorded a landmark turnout of 67.13%, the highest since 1951.

71.6% women voted,

compared to 62.8% men,

despite there being 4.3 lakh more men than women in the updated electoral rolls.
This nearly 9-point difference indicates strong mobilization in favour of Nitish Kumar, especially given his government’s extensive women-centric welfare schemes. Ahead of the elections, CM Nitish Kumar and PM Modi transferred ₹10,000 each to 21 lakh women under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana. In contrast, the Mahagathbandhan failed to connect with women voters despite announcing job schemes and increased allowances for Jeevika Didis.

Corruption-Free Image: A Major Factor
The NDA also benefitted significantly from Nitish Kumar’s clean administrative record — a stark contrast to RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s involvement in multiple corruption scandals. Lalu is currently facing trial in the IRCTC hotel scam, with the Rouse Avenue Court framing charges against him, Tejashwi Yadav, and others.
Throughout the campaign, NDA leaders repeatedly contrasted the vision of a “Developed Bihar” with the alleged jungleraj under RJD. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also emphasized that Nitish Kumar has not faced a single corruption allegation in his political career.

BJP’s Broad-Based Social Strategy
While maintaining coalition harmony has been vital, the BJP has focused on widening its social outreach. The party allocated a significant number of tickets to OBCs and Scheduled Castes, ensuring representation for key sub-groups. In a state with 38 SC-reserved constituencies, BJP fielded at least 29 SC candidates, demonstrating its targeted social engineering.

Opposition’s Struggles and the Failure of the ‘Voter Rights Yatra’
The Mahagathbandhan may find the trends disappointing but not surprising. Rahul Gandhi’s 16-day ‘Voter Rights Yatra’ — aimed at protesting against the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) — failed to translate into electoral gains.
On the other hand:

BJP consolidated upper-caste votes,

JDU united non-dominant OBC groups,

creating a stable social alliance that overshadowed the fragmented opposition.

NDA’s Strong Social Alliance: The Deciding Factor
Ultimately, the NDA’s social coalition — particularly the BJP-JDU partnership — proved stronger and more cohesive than the opposition’s Mahagathbandhan. Despite its name, the Mahagathbandhan could not match NDA’s broad-based community integration, especially among non-Yadav OBCs, SCs, and upper castes.
The people’s verdict is clear:
Performance, stability, and clean governance have triumphed over rhetoric and fragmented politics.
