Nitish Kumar to Take Oath as Bihar Chief Minister for a Record 10th Time on November 20

Patna: In a significant political development, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation to the Governor on Monday, clearing the way for the formation of a new government in the state. According to political circles, Nitish Kumar is set to take oath as the Chief Minister for a record tenth time on November 20, with a grand ceremony scheduled to be held in Patna.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior Union Cabinet ministers, and chief ministers of all NDA-ruled states are expected to attend this landmark event. Following the NDA’s sweeping victory in the recent Bihar Assembly elections, the swearing-in ceremony is being seen as a symbol of unity within the alliance and the beginning of a new term. Under Nitish Kumar’s leadership, the upcoming government is expected to bring administrative stability and accelerate the pace of development in the state.
With the path clear for the formation of the new NDA government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to attend the ceremony. During the election campaign, PM Modi had addressed more than a dozen rallies and had promised to “return for the swearing-in of the new NDA government.”
Rashtriya Lok Morcha chief Upendra Kushwaha said, “The opposition claimed that even if we won, Bihar would face a Maharashtra-like situation. But the truth is before everyone. They tried to mislead people by saying the Chief Minister would be replaced, yet everyone can see that Nitish Kumar is becoming CM again.”
JDU leader Vijay Kumar Choudhary said, “The Cabinet meeting was held today. The Cabinet has recommended the dissolution of the current Assembly from November 19. This has been conveyed to the Governor through the Chief Minister. Another proposal acknowledged the support and cooperation of all Bihar officials and employees throughout the government’s tenure. The Cabinet expressed appreciation for the successful implementation of government policies and schemes.”
He added, “The third proposal congratulated the Chief Minister for leading the NDA to an overwhelming victory in the recently concluded elections and expressed gratitude that NDA achieved such remarkable success under his leadership.”
HAM (Secular) national president Santosh Kumar Suman said, “There is a process. The government will be formed on time, the oath-taking will happen, and the NDA Legislature Party will meet to elect the leader who will stake claim to form the government… Our participation in the government will continue. We performed well in the seats allotted to us. Everything will progress smoothly over the next 3–4 days. Even if we don’t get a ministerial berth, we will continue serving the people of Bihar. We have not demanded anything and will not demand anything; whatever happens will be decided openly.”
Chirag Paswan said that the LJP (Ram Vilas) is eager to join the new government, though he refrained from commenting on whether his party is eyeing the Deputy Chief Minister’s post.
In the outgoing government, BJP leaders Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha served as Deputy Chief Ministers. Meanwhile, the HAM party, led by Minister Santosh Kumar Suman, held a meeting of its legislative group and elected Sikandra MLA Praful Manjhi as its leader. MLC Suman said, “We extend full support to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and look forward to serving the people of Bihar once again.”
