Reviewing Defeat Over Lavish Dishes — Questions Raised Over Maurya Hotel Meeting

Patna : After a crushing defeat in the Assembly elections, the review meeting of VIP chief Mukesh Sahani has become a topic of intense discussion. Pictures from the meeting, held at Patna’s prestigious Maurya Hotel, have gone viral, triggering sharp reactions on social media. Maurya Hotel is known as one of the most expensive hotels in Patna, where even a single plate of food can cost over ₹2,000.
Seeing Mukesh Sahani and his party leaders discussing election results in a relaxed atmosphere while enjoying lavish dishes has raised serious questions. Many are asking how such grand settings can help them understand the pain of party workers and the public, who are disappointed and distressed after the defeat.
Mukesh Sahani, who previously worked as a film set designer, entered Bihar politics with grandeur, spending crores on massive hoardings. He has long claimed to be the leader of his community, but critics argue that despite serving as MLC and minister, he failed to significantly uplift his community. Ironically, several members of the same community are now ministers in both the central and Bihar governments.
This election presented a major opportunity for the VIP party, but political analysts believe Sahani got distracted by the lure of the Deputy CM position and missed crucial strategic decisions. Even within the party, many feel that organizational weaknesses and a disconnect from ground-level workers contributed heavily to the defeat.
Despite this, it is true that Mukesh Sahani continues to hold influence in Bihar’s political landscape, and many believe he deserves another chance. However, the bigger question remains—will he step closer to the ground and understand the real struggles of the people and party workers?
For now, the “review meeting” at Maurya Hotel has certainly cast the glimmer of a grand dining table over the seriousness of political introspection.
