CM Himanta Surpasses 1.5 Lakh Jobs Target, Mega Job Mela Held in Assam Today

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday announced a major milestone in government recruitment, stating that the state has crossed the mark of 1.5 lakh government jobs during his tenure, fulfilling a key promise made during the 2021 Assembly elections.
In a social media post, the Chief Minister informed that he was heading to Sarusajai, where appointment letters would be handed over to more than 6,000 candidates selected under ADRE Grade-III. “We have already provided over 1.5 lakh government jobs so far, and many more will be offered in the coming days,” Sarma said.
The announcement came a day after 4,369 candidates selected for Grade-IV posts through the Assam Direct Recruitment Examination (ADRE) were given appointment letters. With this, the total number of government appointments made during the current government’s tenure has reached 1,50,033, far exceeding the earlier target of one lakh jobs.
Addressing a programme at the Jyoti-Bishnu International Cultural Centre, the Chief Minister said the ADRE recruitment process was extremely complex and ensuring transparency was a major challenge. He noted that earlier, separate departmental examinations often clashed in schedule, leading to allegations of corruption, court cases, and staff shortages across departments.
Sarma said the government introduced new laws and constituted separate commissions for Grade-III and Grade-IV posts, thereby implementing a unified and transparent recruitment system. To ensure fairness, examinations were conducted on a single day across 28 districts, with internet services temporarily suspended. More than 9.12 lakh candidates appeared for the exams. He added that the credibility of the process is evident from the fact that no court cases have been filed so far.
Calling upon newly appointed employees to serve the public with dedication, the Chief Minister urged them to ensure timely redressal of citizens’ grievances in government offices. He also announced that the ‘Swagat Satirtha’ portal would be reopened from February 1 to facilitate mutual transfers among employees.
Emphasising merit-based governance, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said transparent recruitment has restored the confidence of Assam’s youth in the system, while the government continues to promote entrepreneurship and employment generation across the state.
