Cabinet Approves Appointment of Anupama Nilekar Chandra as Director General (Investigation) of NHRC

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Anupama Nilekar Chandra, a 1994-batch IPS officer of the Bihar cadre, as the new Director General (Investigation) of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

Currently serving as Special Director General in the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Anupama Nilekar Chandra will succeed Anand Swaroop (IPS: 1992: Uttar Pradesh), who has been shifted to the Ministry of Home Affairs as Special Secretary (Internal Security).

According to the official order, Anupama Nilekar Chandra will serve as Director General (Investigation) at the NHRC until her superannuation on March 31, 2031.

Her appointment is expected to further strengthen the leadership of the National Human Rights Commission. With her extensive experience in policing, border management, and investigative oversight, she is set to bring added depth and effectiveness to the functioning of India’s apex human rights body.
