Mayawati Demands Ban on ‘Ghuskhore Pandit’ Web Series, Supports FIR in Lucknow

Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Ms. Mayawati on Friday demanded an immediate ban on the proposed Netflix web series ‘Ghuskhore Pandit’. She alleged that the series portrays the Brahmin community in a derogatory manner, which could harm social harmony.

Mayawati said that content hurting the image of any community should not be allowed to be broadcast. According to her, such portrayals are not only objectionable but can also create unnecessary tension in society.

She supported the FIR registered by the Lucknow Police in the matter and said that appropriate legal action must be taken to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future. The BSP chief also urged the Centre and the concerned platform to review the content and take necessary steps to ensure that no community’s sentiments are hurt.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Mayawati wrote that it is a matter of deep concern that in recent times, not only in Uttar Pradesh but now even in films, the term “Pandit” is being shown as synonymous with bribery and corruption, leading to disrespect across the country. She said this has caused widespread anger among the Brahmin community and that her party strongly condemns it. She demanded that the Central Government immediately ban this caste-biased web series.

An FIR has been registered at Hazratganj Police Station in Lucknow against filmmaker Neeraj Pandey and his team. According to police officials, the action followed complaints alleging that the title and theme of ‘Ghuskhore Pandit’ hurt religious and caste sentiments and could disturb public harmony. The FIR was lodged after Station House Officer Inspector Vikram Singh of Seekhadan Chowki, Hazratganj, took cognizance of the complaints.
