Training of Community Resource Persons on Natural Farming Held in Tawang

Tawang (Arunachal Pradesh) : A training programme for Community Resource Persons (CRPs), popularly known as Krishi Sakhis, on Natural Farming under the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF) was successfully conducted by the Agriculture Department in Tawang today. The programme saw the participation of 72 CRPs representing 36 clusters, along with entrepreneurs from Bio-Resource Centres and officials of the Agriculture Department.
Welcoming the participants, District Agriculture Officer of Tawang, Pema Dechhen, highlighted the increasing importance of natural farming as a sustainable agricultural practice. He emphasized that the adoption of natural farming methods helps restore soil health, reduce dependency on chemical inputs, and enhance long-term agricultural productivity.
During the technical session, K.B. Kayastha, Entomologist, delivered an insightful lecture on the principles and practices of Natural Farming. He stressed the need to improve soil quality and physical soil conditions through effective management of organic matter and by promoting soil biological activity. He also highlighted diversified cropping systems and enriched biomass recycling as key elements of sustainable agriculture.
As a resource person, C.K. Singh, SMS (Agronomy), explained various agronomical practices under Natural Farming and guided the participants on effective crop management techniques. Lakshmipriya Borah, SMS (Plant Protection), elaborated on the management of pests and diseases through natural farming approaches, focusing on eco-friendly techniques that reduce the reliance on chemical pesticides.
The programme also featured addresses by Chimey Drokar, ADO Jang, and Tashi Panden, ADO Kyidphel, who encouraged the CRPs to actively promote natural farming practices within their respective clusters.
The training concluded with an interactive discussion session, during which the trainees actively engaged with the resource persons and clarified their queries. The programme aimed to strengthen the capacity of Community Resource Persons so that they can effectively assist farmers in adopting natural farming practices across the district.
