Major Setback for Congress in Delhi: Eviction Notice for Akbar Road and Raisina Road Offices, March 28 Deadline

New Delhi: A significant development has emerged concerning one of the most prestigious addresses in Indian politics—24 Akbar Road. The central government has issued an eviction notice to the Indian National Congress, directing it to vacate its two key offices—24 Akbar Road (national headquarters) and 5 Raisina Road—by March 28.
According to the notice, the party must vacate both properties within the stipulated deadline. A senior Congress leader confirmed that the notices were received a few days ago, leaving the party with limited time to mount a legal and political response.
Sources indicate that the approaching deadline has triggered anxiety within the party. Both locations have long served not only as hubs of organizational activity but also as crucial centers for political strategy and decision-making.
The Congress is now deliberating its next course of action. Options under consideration include approaching the courts and seeking additional time from the central government. Party sources suggest that a request may also be made to reorganize the allocation of these properties.
One of the strategies being explored involves facilitating a senior leader’s entry into the Rajya Sabha so that a government accommodation can be allotted in their name and subsequently used as an office space. However, this would require swift political and legal maneuvering before the March 28 deadline.
The potential loss of 24 Akbar Road—an address closely associated with the Congress leadership for decades—could have far-reaching political and symbolic implications. Similarly, 5 Raisina Road has been an important operational center for the party. The eviction notice for both offices is therefore being viewed as a major challenge for the Congress.
