Melody Queen Asha Bhosle Passes Away, Music World Mourns the Loss

Mumbai: Legendary and influential Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle has passed away at the age of 92. With her demise, an iconic golden era of Hindi film music comes to an end. From film personalities to millions of fans across the country, heartfelt tributes are pouring in.
Passed Away in Hospital
According to doctors at Breach Candy Hospital, Asha Bhosle died due to multi-organ failure. She had been admitted after her health deteriorated on Saturday. Earlier, her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle had informed that she was suffering from a chest infection.
Family Confirms
Her son Anand Bhosle confirmed the news, stating that her mortal remains will be kept at Casa Grande in Lower Parel for final respects, and the last rites will be performed at Shivaji Park.
A Musical Journey Since Childhood
Born on September 8, 1933, in Sangli, Maharashtra, Asha Bhosle was the daughter of renowned classical singer Deenanath Mangeshkar. After her father’s demise, she began singing at a young age alongside her elder sister Lata Mangeshkar.
She recorded her first song in 1943 for the Marathi film Majha Bal and made her Hindi debut in 1948 with the song Sawan Aaya from the film Chunariya.
A Versatile Musical Icon
Asha Bhosle was celebrated for her extraordinary versatility. She excelled across genres including film music, ghazals, bhajans, pop, classical, and qawwali. Recording over 12,000 songs in more than 20 languages, she created an unparalleled legacy.
She collaborated with legendary artists like Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, and R. D. Burman, setting new benchmarks in Indian music.
Awards and Honors
Her immense contribution was recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award (2000) and the Padma Vibhushan (2008). She also received National Film Awards for her songs in Umrao Jaan and Ijaazat.
A Timeless Voice
Asha Bhosle’s voice had an incredible range—from soulful ghazals like In Aankhon Ki Masti to energetic hits like Piya Tu Ab To Aaja and Yeh Mera Dil. Even in the 1990s, she remained relevant among younger audiences with songs like Rangeela Re and Tanha Tanha, composed by A. R. Rahman.

Her popularity extended beyond India. In 1997, British band Cornershop released Brimful of Asha in her honor, which topped international charts.
