Political Heat Rises in Samajwadi Party After Shiv Sena Turmoil; Why Is ‘Rebel Ballia’ Being Discussed?

New Delhi: After the political upheaval witnessed in Maharashtra’s Shiv Sena (UBT) and West Bengal’s Trinamool Congress, signs of a major political shake-up are now emerging in Uttar Pradesh as well. Just a day after predicting a significant split within the Samajwadi Party (SP), Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief Om Prakash Rajbhar made another explosive statement on Thursday, triggering intense political speculation.

Rajbhar not only reiterated his claim that the Samajwadi Party is heading toward a split but also hinted at who could lead the rebel faction that may challenge SP president Akhilesh Yadav.

A vocal critic of Akhilesh Yadav for quite some time, Rajbhar alleged that a strong group of dissident SP MPs is gradually taking shape. In a post on social media platform X, he made a significant claim regarding the leadership of the alleged rebel camp.

“Since yesterday, everyone has been asking what is going to break within the SP. Let me tell you—the group of rebel SP MPs will be led by a son of Uttar Pradesh’s ‘rebel land.’ And why shouldn’t he? The way Brahmins were allegedly insulted yesterday under the guise of a conference at the SP office deeply hurt the ‘son of Rebel Ballia.’ The plan was already in place, but yesterday’s incident acted like fuel to the fire. The split is now certain,” Rajbhar wrote.

Rajbhar’s remarks suggest that dissatisfaction within the party had been brewing for some time, but the alleged insult to members of the Brahmin community at the SP office served as a catalyst, accelerating the process of rebellion.

Deputy CM Maurya Adds Fuel to the Speculation

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and several other political figures have also claimed that discontent is growing within the Samajwadi Party.

Speaking in Kanpur, Maurya said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to return to power in Uttar Pradesh with a massive mandate, while the SP is likely to face another electoral setback. He further claimed that several SP leaders are unhappy with Akhilesh Yadav’s leadership and that around 25–26 party MPs are planning to part ways with the party.

The statements made by Rajbhar and Maurya have intensified political discussions in Uttar Pradesh. While the Samajwadi Party has not officially responded to these allegations, political observers believe that developments within the party will remain under close scrutiny in the coming days.
