Amit Shah Meets President Murmu After PM Modi Visit; Cabinet Reshuffle Speculation Intensifies

New Delhi: Amid growing speculation over a possible reshuffle of the Union Cabinet, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday. The meeting came just two days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interaction with the President, further fueling discussions about a potential cabinet expansion or reorganization.

Rashtrapati Bhavan shared photographs of the meeting between Amit Shah and President Murmu on social media platform X. In its post, the President’s office stated that the Union Home and Cooperation Minister had paid a courtesy call on the President.

While neither the government nor the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made any official statement regarding a cabinet reshuffle, recent political developments have intensified speculation about possible changes in the Council of Ministers.

Some Ministers Not Renominated to Rajya Sabha

Senior BJP leader George Kurian from Kerala recently resigned from the Union Council of Ministers after the completion of his Rajya Sabha tenure. Kurian had been serving as Minister of State for Minority Affairs as well as Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying. The BJP decided not to renominate him to the Upper House.

Similarly, Minister of State for Railways and Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Ravneet Singh Bittu has also not been renominated to the Rajya Sabha after the end of his term. These decisions have added momentum to discussions about possible changes in the Union Cabinet.

New Organizational Responsibilities Assigned

Several Union ministers have also been entrusted with important organizational responsibilities in their home states. On May 28, the BJP appointed Minister of State Harsh Malhotra as the President of the Delhi BJP unit. Earlier, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary was given charge of the BJP’s Uttar Pradesh unit.

Political observers believe that these organizational changes, coupled with developments within the government, could influence the composition of the Union Council of Ministers.

Cabinet Expansion on the Horizon?

The consecutive meetings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah with President Murmu, along with the conclusion of Rajya Sabha terms for some ministers and recent party appointments, have sparked fresh speculation about a possible cabinet reshuffle or expansion.

Although there has been no official confirmation, political circles are closely watching developments and believe that significant changes in the Union government’s team could be announced in the coming days.
