Tata Power-DDL strengthens Monsoon Preparedness to Ensure Uninterrupted Power Supply and Enhance Public Safety

New Delhi : As the monsoon season approaches, Tata Power-DDL reaffirms its commitment to ensuring public safety, reliable power supply, and swift emergency response through a robust monsoon preparedness strategy. In line with its pre-monsoon safety initiatives, the discom has undertaken a comprehensive maintenance exercise across its network to ensure a safe monsoon season for its customers and minimise the risk of electricity-related incidents.
Commenting on the company’s monsoon safety preparedness, spokesperson at Tata Power-DDL said: “With pre-monsoon weather becoming increasingly erratic and the monsoon expected to arrive later than usual, we have intensified maintenance of our power infrastructure to ensure reliable electricity supply and the safety of residents across North and North-West Delhi. Our comprehensive preparedness measures are designed to minimise disruptions and respond swiftly to weather-related challenges. We urge all our customers to remain vigilant and follow electrical safety guidelines. Together, we can ensure a safe and secure monsoon season.”
Key Preparedness Highlights-
- Pre-monsoon inspection and maintenance of equipment including electric poles, distribution transformers and cables to ensure network resilience throughout the rainy season.
- As part of a special Current Leakage Testing Drive, leakage testing has been executed on electric poles, PWD/MCD poles, ATMs and streetlight poles in MCD/DDA parks. This drive covers testing of network poles, streetlight poles, substation fencing, grill fencing of MCD/PWD parks, ATMs and gates & other installations in schools, hospitals and other public premises.
- Deployment of special emergency response teams for 24×7 operations, with focused attention on flood-prone and high-risk areas.
- Completion of the special Public Installation Safety Audit (PISA) drive of more than 5300 installations covering schools, hospitals, DJB water treatment plants and large office premises to prevent electrical hazards at critical public installations.
- The height of substations prone to be affected during flood conditions have been raised to ensure continuity of supply during waterlogging events.
- Preventive tree trimming and vegetation management activities are being undertaken to prevent the risk of trees falling on electrical installations and causing supply disruptions.
During the monsoon season, heavy rainfall presents numerous challenges such as waterlogging, strong winds, and lightning, which can adversely affect power infrastructure. In response, Tata Power-DDL is undertaking proactive consumer awareness drives on electrical safety to mitigate risks and safeguard lives. Notices are being served and pasted wherever electrical safety violations are observed, and supply is being disconnected for dangerous installations in congested areas to prevent accidents, including electrocution and flash burns.
All field teams of Tata Power-DDL have been trained on electrical safety protocols specific to monsoon conditions, with emphasis on the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and a zero-tolerance approach to unsafe practices.
The company spokesperson further added, “Public cooperation is critical during such situations. We urge citizens to stay away from electrical installations, , feeder pillars, and electrical panels. Any electrical hazard or unsafe condition such as exposed wires, open bus-bars should be reported immediately through our helpline so that prompt action can be taken.”
