‘Royal Rajasthan’ Echoes in Tokyo, Japanese Tourists Invited to Experience India’s Regal Heritage
Joint initiative by the Embassy of India and Rajasthan Tourism; Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari’s special message steals the spotlight
Jaipur/Tokyo: Rajasthan is strengthening its position as one of India’s most attractive destinations for Japanese travelers through a special tourism promotion campaign in Japan. A tourism roadshow titled “Royal Rajasthan: Celebrating India’s Heritage, Culture and Tourism” was organized at the Embassy of India in Tokyo on Monday. The event, jointly hosted by the Embassy of India and the Department of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan, showcased the state’s rich cultural heritage, royal legacy, and diverse tourism offerings to Japan’s travel industry and tourism stakeholders.
The roadshow aimed not only to promote Rajasthan as a premier travel destination but also to strengthen tourism ties between India and Japan by highlighting the state’s historical monuments, vibrant culture, spiritual attractions, wildlife, and world-class hospitality.
Diya Kumari’s Video Message Becomes the Highlight
The event commenced with a welcome address by Nagma Mohamed Mallick, Ambassador of India to Japan, followed by the screening of a promotional film showcasing Rajasthan’s iconic tourist destinations.
The biggest attraction of the event was a special video message from Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism Minister Diya Kumari, who invited Japanese citizens to visit Rajasthan and experience its majestic forts, palaces, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, rich traditions, wildlife, spiritual destinations, and renowned royal hospitality. She expressed confidence that Rajasthan would offer Japanese visitors an unforgettable travel experience.
Rajasthan Showcased as a Diverse Tourism Destination
Anand Tripathi, Senior Additional Director of Rajasthan Tourism, delivered a detailed presentation highlighting the state’s wide-ranging tourism opportunities. He emphasized that Rajasthan is much more than its magnificent forts and palaces, offering experiences such as:
- UNESCO World Heritage Sites
- Luxury tourism
- Wildlife safaris
- Desert adventures
- Buddhist tourism
- Destination weddings
- Rural and cultural tourism
- Adventure tourism
- MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions)
- Wellness tourism
- Sustainable tourism
He noted that Rajasthan offers a unique blend of heritage, culture, and modern tourism infrastructure, making it one of India’s most sought-after travel destinations.
Focus on Tourism Investment and New Policies
The presentation also highlighted the Rajasthan Tourism Unit Policy-2024, designed to encourage investment in the tourism sector. Officials outlined key reforms, including granting industry status to tourism, promoting investments, preserving heritage properties, expanding homestay facilities, and strengthening tourism infrastructure.
Participants were informed that Rajasthan is home to nine UNESCO World Heritage Sites, internationally acclaimed luxury hotels, the iconic Palace on Wheels luxury train, and some of India’s most popular destination wedding venues. Special emphasis was also placed on Rajasthan’s Buddhist heritage and proposed Buddhist tourism circuits, which are expected to attract Japanese travelers.
Japanese Tour Operators Share Positive Experiences
Leading Japanese tour operators Takeshi Mizuno of BS Travel Service Co. Ltd./Ashoka Tours and Satoru Haruna of World Air-Sea Service Co. Ltd. shared their experiences of promoting Rajasthan among Japanese tourists.
They noted that Rajasthan’s popularity in Japan continues to grow, with specially curated Rajasthan-focused travel packages receiving encouraging responses. They described Rajasthan as India’s most distinctive cultural and heritage tourism destination.
Industry Stakeholders Participate
Representatives from major tourism and hospitality organizations in Rajasthan joined the event virtually, including the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Rajasthan (HRAR), Rajasthan Association of Tour Operators (RATO), Federation of Rajasthan Tourist Operators (FRTO), Indian Heritage Hotels Association (IHHA), Federation of Hospitality and Tourism of Rajasthan (FHTR), Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India (ADTOI), and the Hotel Association of Jaipur.
The participants discussed opportunities for expanding tourism cooperation and strengthening business partnerships with the Japanese travel industry.
Kalbelia Dance Captivates the Audience
The event concluded with a vibrant performance of Rajasthan’s world-famous Kalbelia folk dance, which mesmerized the Japanese audience with its colorful costumes, energetic music, and graceful choreography.
A networking and business interaction session followed, allowing representatives from the Indian and Japanese tourism industries to explore future collaborations, investment opportunities, and joint promotional initiatives.
Strengthening Tourism Diplomacy
Tourism experts believe that such international roadshows serve not only as promotional events but also as powerful platforms for cultural diplomacy, economic cooperation, and people-to-people connections.
The Rajasthan Tourism Department’s initiative is expected to further enhance the state’s global image among Japanese travelers and significantly boost tourist arrivals from Japan in the coming years, reinforcing Rajasthan’s position as one of India’s premier international tourism destinations.
