Delhi Metro Shuts Four Key Stations Until Further Orders Amid Security Concerns; Interchange Services to Continue
New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced the temporary closure of 16 metro stations, including Janpath, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, and Central Secretariat, until further orders due to security concerns. The decision comes in view of the ongoing protest by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar.
According to a service update issued by DMRC, passenger entry and exit at the affected stations have been suspended as a precautionary measure. However, interchange facilities at Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat Metro stations will remain operational, allowing commuters to switch lines without exiting the stations.
Passengers Advised to Use Alternative Routes
DMRC has urged commuters to check the latest service updates before beginning their journey and to use alternate travel routes wherever necessary. The corporation stated that the restrictions will remain in force until further notice.
Security Tightened Around Protest Venue
Security has been intensified across the national capital due to the ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar. As part of precautionary measures, metro stations located in sensitive areas have been temporarily closed to maintain law and order and ensure public safety.
CJP Spokesperson Criticises Government
Meanwhile, Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) National Spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka described the protest as one of the largest public movements since India’s independence. He said the demonstration held on the 20th was “just a trailer” and warned that if the government failed to address the protesters’ demands, lakhs of people would arrive in Delhi in the coming days.
Ranka alleged that the movement has remained entirely peaceful and claimed that disorder during the previous march began only after police allegedly used force against protesters. He said participants have been protesting peacefully for the past 31 days, following the principles of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
Authorities Urge Public to Stay Updated
Authorities have advised commuters to follow official DMRC updates and comply with security advisories while travelling. Officials said the situation is being monitored continuously, and further decisions will be taken based on the evolving security scenario.
