73 Employees of Trishuli-1 Power Project and Kailash Mansarovar Pilgrims Among Those Affected; India Sends 47.5 Tonnes of Humanitarian Aid

New Delhi: Amid the severe floods and natural disaster in Nepal, contact has been lost with around 288 Indian citizens. Those affected include employees of the Trishuli-1 Power Project, pilgrims undertaking the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and Indian citizens from several states. The Government of India has stepped up relief and rescue efforts while closely monitoring the situation.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the Indian Embassy is in continuous contact with the Nepalese authorities regarding the Indian citizens stranded in the affected areas. The government’s priority is to obtain information about those stranded and ensure their safe evacuation.

288 Indians in Five Major Groups

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, 73 Indian nationals working at the Trishuli-1 Power Project are among those with whom contact has been lost. The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu is in touch with the project head to gather further information about their situation.

In addition, two separate groups of 37 and 49 people from Tamil Nadu were undertaking the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra through Samrat and Fly Everest Travels.

Another group of 32 Indian nationals from West Bengal is stranded in Timure in Rasuwa district. Besides them, 61 Indians from different states and 33 citizens from Kerala are also among those currently out of contact.

Together, these five major groups account for 288 Indian citizens with whom contact has not yet been established.

India Sends 47.5 Tonnes of Humanitarian Aid

To strengthen relief and rescue operations in Nepal, India has promptly dispatched humanitarian assistance. A total of 47.5 tonnes of relief material has been sent to Nepal through two aircraft.

The consignment includes around 8 tonnes of medicines and 1 tonne of food supplies, along with other essential humanitarian assistance. The Indian government has assured that support for the ongoing relief operations in Nepal will continue as required.

PM Modi Assures Nepal of All Possible Assistance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with the Prime Minister of Nepal and expressed his deep condolences over the loss of lives caused by the disaster. He conveyed India’s solidarity with the people of Nepal and assured them of all possible assistance.

The Indian government has maintained continuous communication with Nepal, with the safety of Indian citizens remaining its top priority.

Efforts Underway to Evacuate Around 200 Indians Stranded on the China Side

The Ministry of External Affairs is also assisting Indian pilgrims stranded on the Chinese side. According to the ministry, around 200 Indian nationals have sought India’s help to return from the region.

Of these, around 95 people are in Garchan and are moving towards Bilsa to enter Nepal. Four people are in Jilong city, while 13 are in Zutulpo and are heading towards Saga.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the situation is constantly changing and Indian officials are closely monitoring developments.

21 Tamil Nadu Citizens Rescued

Randhir Jaiswal said that 21 Indian citizens from Tamil Nadu have been safely rescued. The government is coordinating with the concerned authorities to evacuate other Indian citizens stranded in Nepal and on the China side.

Amid the severe natural disaster in Nepal, India’s dispatch of relief supplies and ongoing efforts to evacuate stranded Indian citizens reflect the country’s commitment to humanitarian cooperation and its responsibility towards its neighbouring country.
