Deputy CM Chowna Mein Graces Independence Day Celebration and Closing Ceremony of United Brotherhood Cup Football Tournament in Namsai.
Namsai (Arunachal Pradesh): On the occasion of the 78th Independence Day, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein hoisted the National Flag at the General Ground in Namsai, attended by Namsai MLA Chau Zingnu Namchoom, ZPC Urmila Mancheykun, DIG (East) Kime Aya, DC in-charge Kretkam Tikhak, SP Sange Thinley, public leaders, HoDs, and the public.
In his address, Mein paid tribute to India’s freedom fighters and martyrs, emphasizing their pivotal role in inspiring the nation’s aspirations for development by 2047, as outlined in the Amrit Kaal vision. He highlighted the significance of national campaigns like ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ to instill patriotism and ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ for promoting environmental responsibility. Furthermore, he extended gratitude to the people for their continued trust in Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, leading to BJP’s victory in Arunachal Pradesh during the 2024 General Elections and enabling them to continue the pace of development in the State under Pema Khandu’s Chief Ministership.
Mein emphasized the transformative impact of the motto ‘Reform, Transform, and Perform’ on the State’s fiscal growth, particularly in capital expenditure, which has strengthened Arunachal Pradesh’s economy. He noted significant advancements in poverty alleviation, infrastructure development, and connectivity, including the operational Donyi Polo Airport and the expansion of National Highways.
Mein also highlighted substantial investments in education and healthcare, citing the implementation of the New Education Policy, the establishment of Arunachal Pradesh State University, and upgradation of District Hospitals across the State with an investment of Rs 450 Cr. He also underlined women’s empowerment initiatives, including Self-Help Groups and financial schemes, as essential drivers of gender equality.
Furthermore, Mein reiterated the state’s commitment to agriculture, youth empowerment, and entrepreneurship, designating 2024 as the “Year of Youth.” He called for the protection of natural resources in alignment with the state’s dedication to sustainable development.
Mein also inaugurated the Exhibition Stalls put up by various departments, NGOs, SHGs, Schools & Colleges like Polytechnique, Arunachal University of Studies and others , Deputy CM Mein praised the March past contingents, cultural troupes, Govt officials, SHGs, NGOs, teachers, and students for their participation and successful execution of the program. He also distributed awards to winners of various events held in honor of Independence Day, acknowledging their efforts in fostering a spirit of patriotism.
Later in the day, Deputy CM Mein attended the closing ceremony of the inaugural United Brotherhood Cup Football Tournament in Manmow, Namsai, organized by United Brotherhood Club with the theme ‘Unity Through Sports.’ In his address, Mein lauded the United Brotherhood Club for organizing the football tournament and its efforts to unite the people of the District through football in its fight against drug menace.
Reflecting on the state’s sports infrastructure, he remarked on the progress made since the 1950s and 60s when Arunachal had limited facilities. Today, the state boasts advanced infrastructure, including sports academies at Itanagar and another coming up at Miao, with the goal of nurturing young talent, he said. He stressed the importance of steering youth away from drugs and towards a positive future through sports and education.
Deputy CM Mein highlighted that this year’s budget reflects a strong commitment to sports and education, ensuring that youth are equipped for success.
He informed that the Government is developing three stadiums in the district, among which one will be in Chongkham and is expected to be completed by this year end. The other two are being constructed at Namsai circle and APL ground. Together, they will serve as training hubs for the athletes of the region.
He also expressed his aspiration for Arunachal athletes to represent the State at future Olympics, and have assured the support of the Govt in realizing their fullest potential.
Mein encouraged the continuation of such events that guide the youths toward a brighter, drug-free future, reinforcing the government’s commitment to fostering talent and ensuring a prosperous tomorrow for Arunachal Pradesh.
