New Delhi : Sony SAB’s ‘Vanshaj’ keeps viewers engaged with its compelling storyline, addressing gender roles and the complexities of inheritance, traditionally dominated by male heirs. This creates tension within the Mahajan family, igniting a fierce rivalry between Yuvika (Anjali Tatrari) and DJ (Mahir Pandhi). DJ’s latest plan to outwit Yuvika is strong, using an imposter against her.In a candid conversation, Mahir Pandhi delves deep into the current plot twist and shares some fascinating insights.

  1. After a long time, DJ finally has the upper hand in his fight against Yuvika. How are you preparing for this new track?

I’d say it’s more than just an advantage. DJ has scripted every detail meticulously, as if he’s directing a film, and as an actor, I’m loving it. Portraying DJ where he sees himself almost as a living god, is unique. It’s like a puppet show with real people, and DJ is effortlessly controlling and observing everything. There’s so much depth to explore and enjoy in this character’s evolution.

  1. Without revealing a lot, can you give us insights on DJ’s plan and what are the challenges he faces in executing the same?

DJ is as devious as ever and he definitely won’t quit easily. His plan is intricate and cunning, involving layers of deception and manipulation. While I can’t give away specifics, rest assured he has some tricks up his sleeve. The challenges he faces are complex: dealing with unexpected obstacles, outsmarting his enemies, and battling his own inner turmoil. He’s playing a high-stakes game where every move matters, and he’s determined to win.

  1. As the storyline continues to unfold, what can viewers expect from DJ’s character in terms of growth and development?

Playing a villainous and complex character like DJ is incredibly rewarding. As an actor, I dive deep into his psyche to reveal different facets of his personality. Every situation has an emotion and every emotion has an intensity that keeps fluctuating with DJ. His motivations and backstory will unfold, showing layers to his character that weren’t evident before. As DJ grows, I grow as an actor. Each new development in DJ’s story gives me a chance to explore and portray different aspects of his character.

  1. DJ finds support from his mother Gargi. How is your on-screen and off-screen dynamic with Parinitha?

My dynamic with Parinitha, or Pari Ma’am as I affectionately call her, is wonderful both on and off the screen. I genuinely call her mom off-screen too. When my real mom met my reel mom, it was a memorable moment! I look up to Pari Ma’am a lot and have immense respect for her. She is incredibly kind and we have become very close. Her warmth and support make working with her a true pleasure.

  1. As DJ’s character continues to evolve, what aspects of his personality or motivations do you find most intriguing or challenging to portray?

DJ’s personality is a rich mix of ambition, cunning, and vulnerability. One of the most intriguing aspects is his constant battle between his desire for power and his underlying insecurities. It’s challenging to portray a character who is so ruthless yet has moments of genuine vulnerability. His motivations are complex, driven by personal grudges, a need to prove himself, and deep fears of losing the Mahajan throne. He has worked hard his whole life and won’t let anyone take away his dreams. Balancing these layers to make him both formidable and relatable is a thrilling challenge.

  1. How has it been playing a negative character like DJ?

From DJ’s point of view, he isn’t the villain or negative at all. He sees himself as a man pursuing his dreams with unwavering determination. He is the hero in his story and always will be. I’ve always been intrigued and attracted to these kinds of characters. I manifested this character who isn’t just black and white but filled with shades of gray and a spectrum of colors. Playing DJ has been a dream come true. It’s an actor’s delight to portray a character who isn’t just a villain, but a multifaceted person with his own reasons and justifications. This role has pushed me to expand my range and explore the nuances of human behavior. It’s both challenging and exhilarating, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

  1. Social media has been abuzz with the new plot twist and fans are praising your villain era. What do you have to say to the fans?

Villains usually don’t get this kind of love, so a big credit goes to the crew, production, our directors, and writers. DJ is the person that you love to hate, but still hate the fact that you still love him. Reading the audiences’ feedback and seeing their excitement for the twists and turns in DJ’s journey drives me to push harder and deliver my best performance. To all the fans, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you! Your support means the world to me.
