Famous Singer Sharda Sinha Merges with the Elements
Patna : Known as the “Bihar Kokila” and a celebrated folk singer, Sharda Sinha was laid to rest today with full state honors. The 72-year-old Sharda Sinha passed away on Tuesday night at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.
Her body was brought from New Delhi to her residence in Rajendra Nagar, Patna, on Wednesday. This morning, her final rites were performed at Gulabi Ghat in Bihar’s capital, with her son Anshuman performing the last rites. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met the family members, offering them solace.
Former Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey, paying his respects, recalled his longstanding association with Sharda Sinha. BJP leader Ram Kripal Yadav said she was a national treasure, and her passing leaves a void in the world of music.
Condolences have poured in from across the country, including from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, Samrat Chaudhary, and people from her in-laws’ village in Singhma, Begusarai. Due to her passing, around 100 households in Singhma have decided not to celebrate the Chhath festival this year.
BJP President JP Nadda is expected to arrive in Patna this afternoon to pay tribute to Sharda Sinha. After landing, he will proceed directly to the State Guest House, followed by a visit to the Chief Minister’s residence. He is also scheduled to briefly participate in the Chhath puja rituals at the residence of Legislative Council member Anil Sharma. Later, he will accompany Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to visit Chhath ghats along the Ganga in the capital. In the evening, he will visit Sharda Sinha’s residence in Rajendra Nagar to offer his respects before departing for Delhi.
