Delhi High Court Extends Deadline for AQIS Terror Module Investigation Until December 2
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court, headed by Justice Rekha Palli, has extended the deadline for the investigation into the AQIS (Al-Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent) terror module until December 2. The High Court had earlier stayed the order of the Patiala House Court, which had refused to grant an extension for the investigation into AQIS on November 19. The High Court issued notices to the 11 accused in the case on the petition filed by the Delhi Police.
The investigation was originally given a 90-day period, which was set to end on November 19. However, the Delhi Police, citing incomplete investigation, filed a petition in the Patiala House Court requesting additional time. The Patiala House Court had denied the request, prompting the Delhi Police to approach the High Court.
In August, the Delhi Police’s Special Cell, in collaboration with the police from Jharkhand, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, carried out a joint operation, raiding 17 locations and arresting the accused. According to the police, the terror module was being led by Dr. Ishtiaq from Ranchi. The arrested individuals included Enamul Ansari, Shahbaz Ansari, Altaf Ansari, Hasan Ansari, Arshad Khan, Umar Farooq, Mohammad Rizwan, Motiur Rahman, Rahmatullah, and Faizan Ahmed.
Police investigations revealed that Hasan Ansari, Enamul Ansari, Altaf Ansari, Arshad Khan, Umar Farooq, and Shahbaz Ansari, all from Jharkhand, had been undergoing firearms training in Bhivadi, Rajasthan.
Authorities also recovered a significant cache of weapons, including an AK-47 rifle, a .38 bore revolver, six .38 bore revolvers, 30 live cartridges of .38 bore, 30 live cartridges for the AK-47, and several other firearms and documents.
