Maha Kumbh Boosts Prayagraj’s Economy by 200 to 300 Percent
Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh): The grand and divine Maha Kumbh 2025 has not only elevated the prestige of the sacred city of Prayagraj but is also expected to significantly enhance its economy in the coming days. The 45-day-long Maha Kumbh event has provided the biggest financial boost to the hotel and restaurant industry, tour and travel sector, and retail businesses in the city. Additionally, the increased income of the city’s residents post-Kumbh is anticipated to benefit the real estate, automobile, electronics, and luxury goods sectors. Experts estimate that the economic inflow generated by Maha Kumbh could result in a staggering 200 to 300 percent boost to Prayagraj’s economy. Furthermore, following CM Yogi Adityanath’s vision, the city’s spiritual tourism is expected to continue growing even during non-Kumbh periods.
Prayagraj’s Economy to Witness a 300% Boost
Maha Kumbh has proven to be a blessing for Prayagraj, both spiritually and economically. Over 660 million devotees visited the city during the 45-day event, leading to a massive surge in revenue for hotels, restaurants, tour and travel businesses, as well as traders dealing in grains, vegetables, mattresses, bedding, furniture, and tents. Additionally, boat operators, auto-rickshaw drivers, street vendors, and general merchants in the Sangam area also experienced a substantial increase in earnings. According to Shiv Shankar Singh, General Secretary of the Prayagraj Trade Association, the rise in income among city residents could contribute to a 200 to 300 percent economic surge in the near future.
Spiritual Tourism to Continue Thriving Post-Kumbh
The General Secretary of the Trade Association highlighted that as the increased earnings from Maha Kumbh circulate within the local market, it will further stimulate the economy. This, in turn, is expected to boost the real estate sector, automobile industry, electronics market, and luxury goods businesses in Prayagraj. Moreover, with CM Yogi Adityanath actively promoting spiritual and domestic tourism in Uttar Pradesh, Prayagraj remains a focal point of this vision. The newly developed 12 corridors in the city, permanent ghats in the Sangam area, and enhanced connectivity with nearby pilgrimage and tourist sites will continue to drive tourism growth in the region. This ongoing development will have a direct positive impact on the economy of both Prayagraj and Uttar Pradesh.
