BBBP Scheme Boosts Sex Ratio in Arunachal Pradesh: Minister Dasanglu Pul
Roing (Arunachal Pradesh) : The implementation of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme in Arunachal Pradesh has significantly improved the sex ratio, with 14 out of 25 districts recording over 900 females per 1,000 males in 2023-24, Women & Child Development Minister Dasanglu Pul announced on Monday.
Speaking at a Beti Janmotsav event in Roing to mark the 10th anniversary of the scheme, Pul stated that Arunachal Pradesh’s sex ratio has reached 948.68 females per 1,000 males, surpassing the national average of 930. Notably, five districts—Shi Yomi, East Kameng, Kamle, Upper Siang, and Tawang—recorded sex ratios above 1,000 in 2023-24, she added.
The minister also highlighted a sharp decline in the dropout rate among girls at the secondary and higher secondary levels, dropping from 30.89% in 2019-20 to 12.5% in 2021-22. Additionally, the first-trimester ANC (Antenatal Care) registration—crucial for early pregnancy care—has improved significantly.
Pul emphasized the positive impact of the BBBP scheme, urging women to utilize government welfare programs for their empowerment. She also stressed the need for greater awareness on girl child trafficking and encouraged parental support to ensure their safety.
The minister outlined key government initiatives related to child adoption, including:
Prioritizing intra-district and intra-state adoptions
Creating contractual positions for managing child and women helplines
Allocating funds for CDPO quarters and working women’s hostels
Call for Women’s Empowerment and Policy Discussions
MLA Mutchu Mithi, who also serves as Advisor to the Home and Education Minister, praised the achievements of women across various sectors and highlighted their crucial role in shaping society. He further called for discussions on polygamy, describing it as a practice that undermines women’s self-respect.
MLA Puinnyo Apum spoke about various government schemes for women’s welfare and urged women to take full advantage of them.
