Cloudburst in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi: Roads and Communication Disrupted, Restoration Work Underway; Jairam Thakur Reviews Situation
Mandi (Himachal Pradesh): The situation turned critical in Mandi district following heavy rainfall and a cloudburst that caused severe damage. Roads have collapsed, houses have been damaged, and telecommunication lines have been disrupted, throwing daily life out of gear. Relief and rescue operations are currently underway on a war footing.
Leader of the Opposition in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly and senior BJP leader, Jairam Thakur, reviewed the situation and stated, “Our top priority is to restore the road infrastructure damaged by the rainfall. Without that, it is impossible to deliver relief materials to the affected areas or carry out rescue operations effectively.”
He further explained that due to the continued rain, it is not feasible to deliver relief via helicopters. “This is my assembly constituency, and I am personally monitoring the situation. Many people are without food supplies, and restoring road connectivity is the only viable option at the moment,” he said.
Discussion with Home Minister
Jairam Thakur also mentioned that he had a detailed conversation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the disaster. “The Home Minister has assured that the Central Government will provide all necessary assistance,” he stated.
Administrative teams and NDRF personnel are working relentlessly to bring normalcy back to the affected regions as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued warnings of continued heavy rainfall in some parts of the state and has urged residents to remain alert.
