Chhattisgarh: Bhupesh Baghel’s Son Chaitanya Baghel Arrested by ED in Alleged Liquor Scam, Former CM Says “We Will Not Be Intimidated”
Raipur/ New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Chaitanya Baghel, son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel, in connection with the alleged liquor scam in the state. According to officials, the arrest is part of a larger probe into corruption worth crores of rupees related to irregularities in liquor trade during the previous Congress government.
Reacting sharply to the ED action, Bhupesh Baghel launched a scathing attack on the central government. He said:
“We will not be intimidated. The moment Adani-related issues come to light, ED is sent to my residence. Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah are using central agencies to please Adani. But Bhupesh Baghel will neither break nor bow.”
The former CM also alleged that the central government is misusing investigative agencies to harass and silence opposition leaders. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he posted:
“ED has arrived.”
He further revealed that the ED team raided his house on the last day of the Assembly session, precisely when he planned to raise the issue of tree felling in Tamnar tehsil of Raigarh district, where the Adani Group is developing a coal mining project.
According to sources, ED had been conducting raids over the past few days at multiple locations linked to the alleged liquor scam. The arrest of Chaitanya Baghel has now added a significant political twist to the case.
The Congress party and other opposition leaders have condemned the arrest, calling it an act of “political vendetta,” while central agencies maintain it is a “firm step against corruption.”
This development is rapidly turning into a major political flashpoint in Chhattisgarh.
