CM Nitish Kumar’s Major Announcement: Massive Hike in Journalists’ Pension, Now ₹15,000 Per Month
Patna (Bihar): In a historic move for the welfare of journalists, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced a significant increase in the monthly pension under the Bihar Patrakar Samman Pension Yojana — from ₹6,000 to ₹15,000. The state government has also issued necessary instructions to the concerned department to implement this decision.
Under this scheme, senior journalists in the state will now receive a more dignified pension after retirement, ensuring greater financial stability. The Chief Minister emphasized that journalists play a crucial role in a democracy — as the fourth pillar, guiding society and upholding transparency in governance.
Additionally, the state government has taken another key decision. In the event of a journalist’s death, the dependent spouse will now receive a lifelong pension of ₹10,000 per month, instead of the earlier ₹3,000. This move is being seen as a major step towards ensuring the financial security of the journalist’s family.
The Chief Minister said, “We remain committed to the welfare of journalists. Our goal is to ensure they can perform their duties fearlessly and independently, and live a life of dignity after retirement.”
The announcement has been welcomed with joy by journalists across the state and is being hailed as a commendable step toward strengthening democracy.
