Special Discussion on India–Suriname Cooperation

New Delhi :  Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dr. Dhananjay Giri recently met Professor Henry R. Ori, former Ambassador of the Republic of Suriname and former Minister of Education, Science, and Culture. The meeting, held in New Delhi, focused on strengthening India–Suriname relations, with particular emphasis on cultural and social issues. Also present were Prof. Ori’s wife, Dr. Shanti Mungra, a senior leader of the VHP Party in Suriname, along with several other dignitaries.

During the discussions, both sides explored the immense potential for cooperation between India and Suriname in the fields of manpower, energy, natural gas, and information technology (IT). It was mutually agreed that enhanced partnership would not only boost economic progress but also open new avenues in technological innovation and job creation.

The meeting injected new energy and opportunities into India–Suriname relations. According to BJP leader Dr. Dhananjay Giri, Suriname shares a deep historical bond with India. The struggles and achievements of the Indian indentured laborers in Suriname continue to serve as an inspiration. Despite adversities, Indians preserved their identity while keeping Indian culture and traditions alive. This, he emphasized, is the hallmark of Indian heritage—that wherever Indians go, through hard work and cultural values, they earn a place of dignity in society.
