“I’m Totally Chill” – Former JDU MLA Shyam Bahadur Singh Says Nitish Kumar Has Assured Him a Ticket Again
Patna (Bihar): As the buzz around the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections grows louder, political activities have begun to intensify, particularly among ticket aspirants. Long queues of hopefuls are now visible outside the JD(U) headquarters. Several former MLAs are also gearing up to reclaim their old bastions.
In this context, former JD(U) MLA from Barharia constituency in Siwan district, Shyam Bahadur Singh, has made a bold claim. He says Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has assured him that he will once again be given the party ticket to contest the upcoming election.
Having served three terms as MLA, Shyam Bahadur Singh emphasized his loyalty to the party, saying, “I’ve always been a committed worker of JD(U) and have followed the party line. Nitish Kumar has shown faith in me, and I will once again contest from Barharia.”
However, his political career has not been free of controversy.
In February 2020, he stirred headlines by calling alcohol “elixir of life,” even as the Nitish Kumar government has enforced total prohibition in Bihar since 2016. His remarks had reportedly embarrassed the party leadership.
Singh is also known for his flamboyant persona. In 2016, a video of him dancing with bar girls at a public event went viral. At that time, he had said, “What’s the big deal? I’m carefree. Life has no meaning without liquor and dance.”
Shyam Bahadur Singh was elected as MLA from Barharia in 2005, 2010, and 2015, but lost the 2020 assembly election. Now, once again, he is preparing to jump into the electoral fray and is actively lobbying for the ticket.
He insists that the people of Barharia still support him, and this time, he’s confident of making a strong comeback.
