Folk Singer Maithili Thakur Joins BJP, Likely to Contest from Alinagar in Darbhanga
Patna (Bihar): Ahead of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has gained a prominent and popular face. Renowned across India and abroad for her melodious voice and her efforts to preserve folk traditions, Maithili Thakur has officially joined the BJP.
At a ceremony held at the BJP’s state headquarters in Patna, State President Dilip Jaiswal formally inducted her into the party. Several senior leaders and party workers were present on the occasion.
Maithili Thakur’s entry into the BJP is being seen as a major boost for the party’s cultural and grassroots strength in the Mithilanchal region. According to party sources, there is strong speculation that she may be fielded as the BJP candidate from the Alinagar Assembly constituency in Darbhanga district.
In recent days, Maithili Thakur and her family had shown increasing signs of political engagement. After joining the BJP, she said:
“I consider politics as a means of social service and cultural enrichment. I have joined the BJP with the spirit of sanskar (values), sanskriti (culture), and seva (service), and I will strive to live up to the people’s trust.”
BJP leaders believe that Maithili Thakur’s induction will further strengthen the party’s base in Mithilanchal, especially among the youth and cultural communities.
