Chirag Paswan Slams Congress, Says “They Applaud When Biharis Are Insulted”

Patna: Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan launched a scathing attack on the Congress on Thursday, accusing its leaders of disrespecting Biharis. Paswan alleged that Congress leaders “clap” when people from Bihar are mistreated in other states.

Speaking to ANI during his visit to Chhapra as part of the NDA’s campaign for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, Paswan said, “I entered politics because Biharis were being humiliated in other states. The word ‘Bihari’ itself was turned into an insult, and unfortunately, every ruling party back then was complicit.”

He further referred to Prime Minister Modi’s remarks, saying, “The Prime Minister reminded everyone how the Congress Chief Minister of Punjab, in the presence of a member of the Gandhi family, threatened Biharis not to enter Punjab — and Congress members applauded such remarks.”

Questioning Congress’s moral right to seek votes in Bihar, Paswan added, “When Congress leaders in Telangana or Punjab insult Biharis, how can the same party come to Bihar asking for votes? The people should ask them — when your Chief Ministers abuse Biharis, you clap, and then you come here to seek our support.”

Paswan expressed confidence that the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections would mark the beginning of a “new era of development” for the state. “This election and the next five years will be Bihar’s golden period. The oath-taking ceremony after November 14 will not just mark the swearing-in of a Chief Minister and Cabinet, but the foundation of a developed Bihar,” he said.

Meanwhile, former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD leader Rabri Devi expressed confidence in her son Tejashwi Yadav’s victory, saying that “the people of Bihar have already decided to make him the next Chief Minister.”

When asked about her elder son Tej Pratap Yadav contesting separately from his newly formed Jan Shakti Janata Dal (JJD), Rabri said, “He is right in his place.”

The Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) has already announced Tejashwi Yadav as its Chief Ministerial candidate and Mukesh Sahani as Deputy Chief Minister candidate. On Tuesday, the alliance unveiled its manifesto titled “Bihar ka Tejashwi Pran” during a joint press conference in Patna, outlining key promises ahead of the election.
