Appointment of Assam’s First Director of Prosecution
Guwahati (Assam): The Assam government has appointed Makhan Phukan as the state’s first Director of Prosecution. This appointment has been made for the newly established Directorate of Prosecution.
His tenure will be temporary for four months, and he will receive a salary in the range of ₹1,99,100 – ₹2,24,100 along with other allowances.
Additionally, Dhanesh Das, Shantanu Bhattacharya, and Manas Haloi have been appointed as Deputy Directors of Prosecution for a four-month term. They will receive a salary in the range of ₹1,63,030 – ₹2,19,090 along with allowances.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on X regarding the appointment, stating, “With the appointment of a Director for the newly formed Directorate of Prosecution, Assam joins the league of pioneering states where law enforcement and the judiciary will be supported by a dedicated prosecution cadre for a fair and effective justice system.”
